Is it possible we have accepted hype and emotional excitement as a poor substitute for Revival in the last few decades? Have we become a people who love appearance and not substance, thereby producing no depth? Have we forsaken godliness and integrity for what many call advancing the kingdom? Revival won't come as long as we compromise integrity for success. Too often we think everyone else must change and not ourselves.I stand out for God's great wind of Revival.

Hope for those with heavy burdens
Two things determine how difficult a load will be to carry: 1) How heavy is the load? and 2) How long do we have to carry it? We can carry a light load for a long, long time. And, we can carry a heavy load for a short time and distance. But the difficult loads to carry are those that are heavy and must be transported for a long time over a long distance.
Do you have any heavy loads that you are carrying in your life? These are not the kind of loads that you carry with your hands. These are the burdens that you carry with your heart. These are not loads that are weighed on a scale. These are the burdens that are weighing down your heart. These are the troubles that make it hard for you to make it through the day. These are the heartbreaks that overwhelm you with sadness and discouragement. These may be loads that are too heavy for your heart to handle. And, these may be loads that you have been carrying for a long, long time. Just like the physical loads that must be carried, these heavy burdens that must be carried for a long time are extremely difficult to manage. Are you carrying these kind of burdens in your heart and life? If so, then hear this: God has hope for those with heavy burdens. He can handle your struggles. Jeremiah 21:27 says: “I am the Lord, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for me?”.
In Matthew 11:28-29, Jesus says: “’Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls’” (Matthew 11:28-29). Notice these incredible words of hope: “you will find rest for your souls.” What powerful words! Jesus says that we can find rest from the overwhelming burdens and troubles that we are carrying. Rest is available. Rest is possible.
How would you like to rest from those struggles and pains and regrets and heartaches that weigh heavy in your life? If the load has been heavy and the conflict has been long and hard, you are undoubtedly crying out for rest for your weary soul. Please understand, that rest is possible –but we must do it God’s way. Jesus gives us clear instructions on how to obtain the rest for our souls.
First, we must acknowledge that the troubles are too much for us to carry. Jesus addresses “all you who are weary and burdened.” We have to admit that we need help. We have to concede that we cannot do it on our own. In fact, we cannot do it at all. We must recognize that we can’t. Without this acknowledgement of our inability to carry the burden, nothing will ever get better. When we are honest with God about our troubles we get the promise of being delivered from them: “Call on me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me” (James 5:13).
Second, we must come to the One who can give rest. Just admitting we have a need is not enough. We must also take steps to bring these burdens to Jesus. “Come to me,” Jesus says. After we acknowledge our weakness, we must bring the burdens to Jesus. In Psalms we read: “call on me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me” (Psalms 50:15). We can stop carrying these struggles by calling on the Lord and laying the troubles at the feet of the Lord. Once we set these burdens down, we no longer have to bear the weight of these issues any more.
One last important truth to note: Even after we lay down our burdens, our circumstances may or may not change, but our perspective will definitely change. In 2 Corinthians 12, Paul writes:
“7 …Therefore, in order to keep me from becoming conceited, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. 8Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. 9But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. 10That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong” (2 Corinthians 12:8-10).
Paul had a burden, a heartbreak, a struggle, a trouble, a “thorn in the flesh.” And, Paul asked God to take that burden away. But God said, “No.” Why?
Paul said that God left the burden in his life because that burden reminded Paul that he was weak and forced Paul to lean on God. Through the difficulty in Paul’s life, he learned that God’s “grace is sufficient.” Further, Paul understood that these difficulties were only “momentary” while God was working toward an “eternal glory that far outweighs them all” (see 2 Corinthians 4:16-18). It may very well be that through the struggles in our lives that God is best able to teach us how faithful He is. And in light of eternity, every hard time we go through will be short-lived. Rather than a circumstance change, Paul had a perspective change.
When we find rest in Christ from the burdens that we carry, our circumstances may not change, but our perspective will. We are actually stronger when we recognize our weakness because we learn we must rely on God’s strength in us and not our own strength. Troubles in life teach us that. We can learn it no other way.
The burdens of our lives can actually be viewed as blessings. How? They teach us where we must turn to find rest for our weary souls…to Jesus. And, they teach us how to let God’s grace save us through the struggles if He chooses not to save us from the struggles. Only His grace can do that. As Paul discovered, His “grace is sufficient.” If God’s grace was sufficient for Paul, it will be sufficient for you as well. Like Paul, God is going to use these hard times in our lives to produce in us perseverance, character, and even hope (see Romans 5:3-5). God is using these burdens to grow us in Him. That is a blessing!
Burden carrying is tiring. Some burdens are very heavy. Other troubles have to be carried a long time and a long way. Are you tired of carry those things around? Take them to Jesus and exchange them for the rest He is offering. Will your circumstances change? Maybe not. But, if not, God’s grace will see you through. You don’t have to be strong…He is. You can rest. Let Jesus carry them!
